Stop!
Don’t shoot. Please hear me on out on this one. I know that car salesmen tend to be some of our least favorite people behind politicians and lawyers. However, I must give credit where credit is due.
Work The Room
The last few times that I have taken my vehicle to be serviced, there is a petite car salesman working. He is has a southern drawl and is always in a good mood. I have watched him talk to the people in the waiting room about buying a new car. And it was not long before he eventually tried to charm me. He works the room — HUSTLE.
Know Your Target
I was at the dealership about a month ago and I heard someone call my name. I thought my car was ready, but it was the same car salesman. He had a sheet of paper in his hand with my info on it. I can only assume that he has access to the list of people waiting while their cars are being serviced. On paper, I looked like I was prime candidate for a new car since my car is a few years old. While I didn’t buy, I respect his HUSTLE.
Pound The Pavement
During my most recent visit, I was sitting at a desk getting my hustle on. From where I was sitting, I could hear his southern drawl make cold calls. More HUSTLE.
Finishing Touch
When I got back into my car, there was some paperwork on the seat. The first thing I noticed was a business card. Attached was a pre-qualified letter and a cost comparison between my vehicle and a new vehicle. While I was annoyed, I was impressed by the pure HUSTLE displayed by this car salesman.
I don’t know how successful he is with this strategy, but I must say he is a hustler. He has taken a multi-tiered approach to his strategy. Sure he will get a few walk-ins and will catch a few people perusing the lot. But, I’m willing to bet that his hustle has made him one of the most successful car salesmen at the dealership.
So as we celebrate Independence Day, remember Freedom is not FREE. You have to hustle for it.
